2 polls say Arizona law is favored in U.S.; Latino survey reflects worries

Two recent polls indicate that a majority of adults across the nation, including many Democrats, support Arizona's new immigration law, but a third poll indicates that Latino voters in Arizona overwhelmingly oppose it.
The new law, which goes into effect July 29, makes it a state crime to be in the country illegally and requires police to inquire about the immigration status of anyone they reasonably suspect to be in the country illegally.

As a result of a request for a desk audit by one Sector Enforcement Specialist (SES), the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) granted the request, analyzed the position, decided the position was not properly classified at the proper grade level, and determined the appropriate grade is a GS-6. The NBPC is reviewing the decision and determining if there are any options for appeal. If you are a SES, please check this website regularly, as notices for assistance will be posted on this site.

Senate Finance Committee staff reported late Wednesday that Alan Bersin,
commissioner of Customs and Border Protection, misrepresented the number of
household staff he employed and failed to properly document his employees'
eligibility to work in the United States.
In September 2009, President Obama nominated Bersin, a former U.S. attorney
for the Southern District of California during the Clinton administration, to
lead CBP. On March 27, Obama appointed Bersin to the post during a congressional
recess and resubmitted his nomination to the Senate on April 21. The committee
plans to hold a hearing on the nomination on Thursday.
The Senate must confirm Bersin's nomination if he is to stay in the job
beyond 2011.

Blue Mass
(05/05/2010) Units of law enforcement personnel - dressed in blue, brown, tan and green - lined the streets of Washington, D.C. yesterday to honor their own. All saluted as 14 honor guards representing federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies passed in formation under a giant American flag as pipe and drum players kept time.
